ABOUT:
This is a first for me. To find a natural rose cut diamond of this color!? I faint! I'm always seeking out colored diamonds and I've had some good ones in my years of doing this, but I think this is the first I've had such a vivid color in a rose cut stone. My last fancy colored stone I called "Sunny." How to name this one!? While it's certainly sunny in ambient light, in the sunshine it lights up a vivid lemon lime green. Another one that seems to adjust its hues from room to room, always appearing rich to vibrant - What a crazy stone!
Such a strong saturation of color, perfectly placed amidst old European cut and transitional cut diamonds in a grid / platform for contrasting color that adds an amazing glitter factor. The piece is crafted in platinum, a good choice to use a white metal again to contrast the color of the epic center stone. This isn't a warm or pale colored diamond, but a look at me / in your face kind of fancy : )
It was sold to me at about .8 carat in size for the center alone, facing up larger like most rose cuts with their flat backs. This rose cut has a wonderful chunky dome to it, compared to many of the flatter discs we sometimes see. It measures about 6.5mm in diameter with a milgrain bezel, facing up to the size of a one carat modern stone. With the addition of the sixteen colorless / white surrounding diamonds totaling about a carat, we have about 1.8 carat total weight in diamonds, facing up at 2 carats.
These are scarce and sought after for a few reasons - the first is that all old cut diamonds of course have a more limited supply. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern, machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time.
The second is the color - it is believed that only 1 carat in every 10,000 carats mined are fancy diamonds. So putting the rose cut together with the fabulous color makes this ring even more scarce.
With the transitional cut diamonds and platinum setting, it was assumedly made around the Art Deco period. It's possible the rose cut is older than that.
Antique box IS included as I wanted this one to have pretty housing so I am including one from my collection.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/4.
I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements as my items do very well without paperwork. Total estimated carat weight of the entire ring is about 1.8 carats (1 carat in smaller white diamonds and .8 carat for the fancy rose cut which is facing up larger.) Again this is an estimate measuring them while set.
The rose cut is 6.5mm in diameter. The smaller diamonds 2 to 2.9mm each.
The piece weighs 4 grams. The panel is 13mm square. It is 5mm tall off the finger to the high crown of the rose cut.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
With fancy color diamonds, color is the dominant value factor. Diamond clarity does not add as much value in fancy-colored diamonds because a diamond’s color is the most sought after feature. It is also worth noting it can be more common to find inclusions in colored stones due to how they were formed in the earth, the chemical structure of the stone causing the coloring can also lead to said inclusions. The center stone has some pinpoint carbon spot inclusions that can reflect around the stone. A small bit of crystal but overall a good clarity (SI?) with the rich color helping mask them, although you should be able to see them with the zoomed photos which highlight everything much more than what can be seen while wearing. The transitional and old European cut diamonds are bright and fiery and are all eye clean. Nothing to note there. Stones are well set and ready to wear.
No chips or cracks, nicks nor nibbles, no frosty flakes of loss, the stones are in excellent condition.
My items do very well without paperwork so I do not remove them from antique settings to send for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website for more) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired as my descriptions are more detailed than a letter grade.
What a wonderful color to the fancy stone! One of my best!
Please also note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
