Antique Pinkish Purple Rhodolite Old Cut GARNET Three Stone Ring Victorian 18k Gold Stacker Band
ABOUT:
Happy memories of finding this one at a shop in Edinburgh with my parents. It was actually sold to me as a ruby ring, but now that I have it home to study, the stones are actually garnets which doesn't disappoint me at all! More specifically, antique rhodolite garnets in those juicy berry hues we so adore. Similar in color to the Perpignan garnets we know and love but in an open back and easy to wear 18k gold setting.
Also fun to study the stones and see that they are old cuts with open culets visible when you look through the stone. Not super evident while wearing due to the rich and vibrant color of the stones, but a nice evidence of age nonetheless. The center is an old cushion but, the flanking smaller stones a bit more round.
This Victorian three stone gives that gorgeous pop of color to a ring stack. I love stackable bands in all hues and colors. We often see them rotated with diamonds so it's been a bit since I've found one with such a striking color.
No hallmarks remain but tests at 18k gold.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is a size 6. It weighs 3.3 grams.
The ring face is 6.4mm north south.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There is a chip to one corner of the center stone seen when I study it under magnification but appears mostly complete to the eye and fills the space. Little to no abrasions which is amazing for age - the sheen and the color of the stones is quite fabulous so I don't see much else besides that when wearing. Of course this also depends on the eye of the beholder so definitely utilize the 20x zoom feature which will accentuate everything much much more than anything seen while wearing.
This one does need gentler wear as it has several worn prongs, one end stone has only 3 good prongs remaining and can move slightly but does not come free. The other stones have wear to the prongs as well but are still well surrounded. This is often seen / expected on a piece of this age and is something you would keep an eye on over time or consider reinforcement for more regular wear (finding someone with a laser welder and asking them to do the minimum possible). Sold as is as most of my buyers prefer original condition.
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Thanks so much for looking at my items!
