Fancy Intense Yellowish Gray Natural Diamond 2.4 Carat Solitaire Ring Smoky Inner Glow Aura French Vintage 18k Gold Unique Engagement Ooak

ABOUT:
This one is straight up mystical! So much life and special character to the natural diamond!
The unique for the unique. : )

This French vintage solitaire ring is set with a certified fancy intense yellowish gray natural diamond of natural color. How magical a stone, made this way in the earth.

While appearing moody and stormy in some ambient light, when in sunlight this stone actually has an inner glow, some natural characteristics of the diamond where it catches the light from within. Also in sunlight, the yellowish hues of the color designation come out to play. So this one is a bit of a chameleon, with changing hues and reflectivity shifting in various lighting conditions. And when it lights up from within, it gives the stone a smoky appearance where the grays create a swirling pattern inside the stone. Some on instagram commented how it is like looking into a galaxy. In my mind, it was like the smoke monster from "Lost" was somehow encapsulated within it. : )

Also with that glimmer from inside the stone, the diamond has a true aura, like the stone is somehow alive. I don't know how to accurately describe it but I'm completely taken with it. I took tons of video content on it because it was so interesting to see how the colors and light reflection of it change from room to room and light to light and angle to angle. So feel to request additional looks! There may be some parts of this listing that seem to have been crafted by AI / Chat GPT but that is not the case as I really dug deep in to allllll my adjectives for this write up : )

I purchased the ring in France and the piece comes with certification from GIL specifying the below, (there is no GIA in France or the surrounding European countries.)
Natural Diamond, Round Brilliant Cut
Size - 2.39 Carats
Clarity - SI2
Color - Natural Fancy Intense Yellowish Gray color
Cut - Good
Polish and Symmetry - Very Good
Flourescence - None

Important to note that gray diamonds are indeed quite rare. They make up only about 2 percent of all colored diamonds, and considering that colored diamonds are only about 1 in 10,000 of all mined diamonds, this one is truly unique in the marketplace. Add to that "fancy intense" grade and it becomes even more rare.

Found in France. I purchased this vintage ring for the shop because it is one of the most interesting and mysterious stones I've seen. It is hallmarked with the French stamp for 18k gold with a French goldsmith stamp. The ring has nice height and stackability with a sturdy shank and setting held in a six prong mount that is secure and ready for daily wear.

I always give a more detailed diamond report than just a letter grade because every diamond has unique characteristics. So I wanted to note this one not a salt and pepper stone. It got the SI2 designation not because of any dark or inky carbon spots or speckles and not because of any large crystal formations or singular inclusions that jump out, but rather because of that aura within the stone. The darker gray inclusions are like swirling cloud formations around the outside of the stone, not really glaring at all to pick out, but overall contributing to the effects of the stone. Contrary to the popular rigamarole, this one's "SI2" characteristics actually make the diamond even more interesting.

Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 7.
Weight: 4.3g
Height off the finger: 8mm
The diamond is about 8.2mm in diameter.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
No real damage to the ring. It is stable and sturdy and ready for wear. The only note - The stone has a very thick girdle with two scuffs, one on each side, possibly occurring when it was removed for testing? This is seen under magnification and is not really eye visible as the stone is still complete and round and fills the setting, but if you have really good eyes and you study the girdle from the side view to catch it reflecting in the light, you may be able to see the difference in texture there. It almost looks like the diamond cutter decided not to polish there, but seeing as how it is on opposite sides of the stone, it appears to have been rubbed while the stone was held.

With fancy color diamonds, color is the dominant value factor. Diamond clarity does not add as much value in fancy-colored diamonds because a diamond’s color is the most sought after feature. It is also worth noting it can be more common to find inclusions in colored stones due to how they were formed in the earth, the chemical structure of the stone causing the coloring can also cause said inclusions. Fortunately, stones with hues does help mask the natural inclusions in the stone. And in this case, its inclusions actually contribute towards its unique coloring and play of light.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
