Chunky Vintage 2.3 Carat Old French Cut & Single Cut DIAMOND Triple Row Stepped Wide Band in Platinum Art Deco with Older Stones

ABOUT:

Old French cut diamonds are at the top of my wish list as a collector, to some day have a band with these chunky square diamonds in this scarcer and quite a bit harder to find cut, especially for the old ones. It's always fun to have wish list items for those of us who hope to grow a good collection over the years so consider these on my bucket list!

The French cut is such an interesting one with an elegant and timeless, almost modern look with the square shape and the triangular scissor cut type facets. With this ring, I especially love it because the French cuts are the older cuts with varying sized open culets and really chunky cuts with high crowns that crop out of the ring face. This adds a wonderful texture to the piece. I can't get exact measurements on these as they are unique and varying cuts but conservatively I am getting around 2.3 carats total weight in diamonds.

And wow is this piece a beast. With the tapering French cuts perfectly channel set and cropping out of the center row, it is flanked by an additional row of older single cut / eight cut diamonds on each side. The single cuts are set into bands that are stepped down from the center, so the piece has a wide footprint, tons of sparkle and a 3D geometry to it.

I found this one in England. It is crafted in platinum and it is bright and gleaming. No hallmarks remain so I'm not sure how old it is. It is possibly Art Deco, or it could be that the old French cuts predate the piece and the setting is later, but definitely vintage and definitely a lot of fun to wear. Thirty five diamonds in all give this one tons of bright sparkle.

When you look at the back of the ring face, the three bands appear separate, but then connect to the smooth and wide back of the shank. I almost wonder if it was a separate ring at one point or perhaps a wedding and engagement set with the center taller band and a wrap on both sides but the shoulders and back are completely smooth on the outside - the piece has a very quality fabrication and a sturdy / heavy hand feel.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
Antique box not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 7 1/4
The ring face is 11.1mm north south. It stands 4.8mm tall off the finger to the top of the center row.
It weighs a sturdy 8.6g.

The center diamond is about 4x3.8mm and probably around .3 carat alone as it's a chunky cut with a nice high crown. The next two flanking the center are 3.2mm then two at 2.8mm, the four end stones (two on each side) are about 2.3mm each.

The single cut diamonds measure about 1.7 to 2.3mm each.

I don't know how to exactly calculate the carat weight on the French cuts without removing them which I would never do but the center band is coming out to 1 1/3 carat, with the flanking bands totaling about half a carat each. This is an estimate but conservatively about 2.3ctw (2 1/3 total weight in diamonds) and it certainly looks the part with all the finger coverage of the 35 stones.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
For the center band, the two end stones on one end are an iteration of a table cut without the triangular top facets. On the other end, both end stones are table cuts but one is a more modern cut and may be a replacement. It also has sort of a milkiness to it although it is the smallest stone so it is not very glaring. One stone moves slightly and can click when the piece is moved very aggressively but all the stones are secure in the channel setting.

The French cut diamonds are eye clean and wonderful. Really excellent quality stones. Some small speck inclusions to a few of the single cut diamonds and under magnification they appear a bit frosty in spots from their unpolished girdles reflecting through the stone but this is how they were made and not a result of inclusions. I just mention it because I can see it under magnification. A bit of slight warmth but overall a very vibrant, bright and lively piece!

No chips or cracks or damage to any of the stones.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
