Vintage 1.9 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Daisy Flower Cluster Ring 18k Gold Art Deco Tall Domed Antique Seven Stone Bezel Setting Floral

I am back from my inventory trip to Europe with quite a lot of antique treasures to share with you! I will be rolling out new pieces almost every week from now, all the way through the holidays. Please stay tuned and feel free to follow on Instagram!

ABOUT:
A comfortable classic! Beautiful vintage daisy cluster ring with seven antique old mine cut diamonds totaling almost two carats. All set in a sleek and smooth bezel and bead prong setting.

This one is low profile and won't catch on clothes, bright and sparkly with the chunky old mine cut diamonds that are likely antique / cut older than the setting. Lovely coverage on the finger crafted in 18k gold. The shank is yellow gold and the ring head is in white gold for contrast and as was customary to set the diamonds in a white metal.

Found in the UK with their hallmarks for 18k gold, date stamp 1985 - it's possible the piece was restamped at a later date or that the components were remade at the later date but the old mine cuts are definitely older / antique period. We often find pieces where heirloom stones were reset in the vintage period and the setting does have evidence of age so it is definitely vintage if not antique as well. I wish I knew the stories this one could tell.

Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
The largest center stone is a chunky cut 4.4mm measuring around .47 carat due to the chunky cut. The six outlining are 3.9 to 4.3mm each and measure .21 to .27 carats each. I can't get exact measurements with the stones in the setting but estimates to around 1.9 carat total carat weight for all seven stones.

The ring is a size 6 1/2 and weighs 2.4g. The ring face is 12mm in diameter and stands 4.5mm tall off the finger to the high crown of the chunky center diamond.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamonds with some natural inclusions. The center stone has a circular crystal pocket inclusion under the table with some gray carbon cloud to it. One diamond is an old cut but has a much flatter crown, still an old cut but likely later than the others. This one appears quite frosty as it has two milky inclusions along with a triangular flake of loss to the underside, leaving an unpolished section of the pavilion. It still appears complete and round and fills the setting and the cut difference is not noticeable except when viewing it from the side, but it does read quite frosty throughout. Also typical for antique stones they have some varying warmth, but are overall well matching and lively stones.

This one is recommended for gentler wear as the outlining stones can move slightly due to some wear to the bezels and bead prongs. The center stone does not move and all stones remain surrounded but I don't recommend 24/7 wear on really any of my antiques that haven't been reinforced just due to expected age of the setting. It is priced with the stones' quirks and the setting taken into account. It is still quite a striking nearly 2 carat old mine cut diamond cluster ring.

But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!

About Antique Diamonds:

The whole "4 C's" of cut, color, clarity, carat didn't come about until the 1940s so prior to that and especially on antique pieces, there was not as much emphasis placed on those things. (Sure people probably appreciated a certain look of a certain diamond as it appeared to the eye but it was not a graded scale like we have today.) So it is difficult to judge antique stones against modern day diamonds and their grading system. No two old cuts are the same as they were crafted in times lacking any modern standards. The diamond cutters of the time were experts at hand cutting each stone to enhance it which means that even lower color grades can be cut to appear whiter. (Although it is also worth noting that many antique collectors prefer and seek out antique diamonds with warmer hues.)

It is also interesting that "lower graded" diamonds in today's scale system, were some of the best on the market during this period! So it is less about their grades and more about the unique play of light and color that each one can offer. I read one article that put it: “When searching for the perfect old cut diamond (for you), you need to view them through different eyes as you would for a modern diamond, Laboratory grading reports don’t offer too much information in regards to their individual beauty or sparkle which are based more on their individual character and uniqueness that each one potentially offers.”
