Victorian Faceted Sphere Circular 3D Victorian Spiked Dangle Earrings with Ball Rivet Sputnik Style but Antique 9k Gold Disco Ball Shimmer
I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
A fun disco dance party on your ears!
Faceted and shimmering spherical earrings, these spiky orb studs, despite being from the Victorian period, have a bit of an edge and still feel on trend today.
Crafted in 9k gold (post, backs and stud portion with dangles) and 10k gold cased (spheres), the ball bead studs have a few chain links leading down to the faceted spheres that catch the light and shimmer. These were sold to me as 9k gold but as I study them, I can see a few seams and some wear from over 125 years to some small portions of the spheres so it appears they are gold cased whereas the stud portions are gold with the push backs stamped 375 for 9k. These differences are not noticeable while wearing, they appear as gold with a lovely antique patina, true gold hue and amazing ability to catch the light with the faceted panels all around the sphere.
We call these types of designs "sputnik" now, like the satellite designs that came out in the mid-century period but were usually gemset. These are actually earlier and just happen to resemble the later design, but were popular in the Victorian period using the orb like shape with rivets.
They look awesome on the ear with the dangling movement and the 3D sphere.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The spheres are 11mm in diameter.
They weigh 2.6g combined.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
One has a small ding to the back but not really evident while wearing as the faceting helps mask it. Sturdy and interesting. Some areas of age appropriate wear but sturdy and ready to be enjoyed for many more years.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
