Wonderful antique French 18k gold Art Nouveau floral starburst navette ring with rose cut diamonds and rubies (also named pink sapphires, same gem family) set into the marquise shaped face. The piece has wonderful color and sparkle. The gold is a lovely rosy 18k gold topped in platinum as was customary to set diamonds in a white metal.
Unique form for a navette with the gorgeous color and sparkle combination. The natural pink gems have contrasting gold bezels. A fine example of ornate French Belle Epoque jewelry with the little diamond accents at each shoulder as well.
Found in France, no hallmarks remain which is common for French pieces due to their stamping location, but sold to me as 18k which is the standard there and tested to confirm.
Antique box not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
Currently measures a size 8. Ring face is 21x10mm. It weighs 3.5g.
CONDITION NOTES:
Typical rose cut diamonds, cut by hand so they have the beautifully irregular and sometimes imperfect antique look to them, with some nicks, rough edges (may have always just been cut that way), and natural frosty inclusions not see by the eye as they are small and add a nice sparkle. Note that much of what is seen by way of hues or frost is actually just build up behind the diamonds, the openings behind the stones are so small it is hard to get perfectly clean and I don't like aggressively cleaning my antiques that have a lot of small stones.
Some little nibbles and nicks to the gemstones, one of the marquise shaped rubies has a little loss to one edge right up against the bezel but appears complete to the eye and while wearing, it is only seen under magnification. Considering age, they have a lovely sheen and polish along with the gorgeous color.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
