DATED 1902 December 21 Octagon Panel Engraved Initial Curb Chain Bracelet French Antique 18k Gold Solid Monogram E J D H P Letters
I take regularly scheduled inventory trips to Europe to offer you a selection of carefully curated antiques. These have all been hand picked one at a time and most are one of a kind.
ABOUT:
And another personal collection release - I love dated jewelry for the built in provenance and I also love the ornate hand engravings of the antique period. Priced at just 10% over melt value (but please don't).
For me, I often look at the old fonts and can't always tell what the intended letters were, so sometimes I look at them and I see what I want to see! : ). Or I just wear the initials whatever the letters are, because it is someone's little hand engraved work of art and they just look so stinking cool. Why don't we write like that anymore? If any of you have gotten one of my thank you notes, you can see my chicken scratch is far from this.
Anywho - I see all kinds of letters on this one with the overlapping cypher. One way I see a P H maybe an e? Flipped the other way I see a d and an H? Whatever it is it is beautifully engraved! And I love the geometry and rich antique glow of the octagon shaped cartouche.
The back is also engraved J. Poudensan - 21 Decembre - 1902 (December is written in French as that is where I purchased it: ). Maybe that should be a hint as to what the initials are but I don't make out a JP in either direction - tee hee!
Still a beautiful, stable, and wearable dated antique bracelet crafted in solid 18k gold with the French hallmarks. If the date is meaningful, I suppose it would be possible to smooth out and re-engrave the name on the back if desired.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
Antique Boxes, props, hooks, chains, mice : ) not included. I just used some staging chains to show examples of how to wear.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Weight is 6.6 grams. Almost 7 1/4 inches end to end. The engraved octagon is 21x15mm.
The links are 3.5mm north south.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Surface wear scuffs and scratches but still very sturdy, stable, wearable and legible.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Thanks so much for looking at my items!
