Antique 1.7 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Blue Paste Faux Sapphire 18k Gold Halo Dormeuse Earrings Victorian Dangle Gift Something Old Blue
I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
Sparkly and blue antique dormeuse earrings!
Classic halo settings with 12 old mine cut diamonds creating a halo on each earring. With a total diamond weight of nearly 1.7 carat for the pair, they are quite impactful to wear.
They surround an old cut blue paste stone meant otherwise look like a sapphire. I actually bought these as a set with the ring shown in the group photos and all were sold to me as sapphires but upon further inspection, the earrings are old cut blue paste and not sapphires (while the ring is a natural sapphire). As such I am selling them separately but they are a beautiful match to wear as a set if desired.
The color and sparkle are so wonderful. These aren't as dainty as some of my other earrings - the ear pendant part is 13.5mm wide. Beautiful clusters in rich antique 18k gold with springy lever backs. The diamonds are set in a white precious metal as was customary for the time, I believe platinum.
Would be a beautiful something old and something blue for a bride. And with classic coloring and design to dress up or down.
HALLMARKS:
Found in France. No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k which is the standard in France and tested to confirm.
Antique box in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The diamonds are 2.7mm each give or take, for the most part. A few measure 2.8 and a few measure 2.5mm. Each earring holds about .84 carat in diamonds for a total carat weight of 1.68 for the pair all together. This is an estimate as I would not remove them for an exact scaled weight. The blue paste are 8mm in diameter, so appearing at about 2 carats each by millimeter at least.
The earrings measure about 15.6mm top to bottom. Combined weight is 6.1g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The old mine cut diamonds are of excellent quality, bright white and fiery with no glaring issues. Some faint frosty speck inclusions typical but no dark carbon. One earring has two stones with an indented natural inclusion leaving an unpolished speck off the edge but none of this is eye visible. One earring has one worn back outside edge prong and the other has three stones with one outside edge prong worn back but none of the stones move. The lever backs are still springy so they are secure to wear.
One paste has a few small nicks, while the other shows more wear as seen in photos. Overall the sheen and polish and color are great, it's just that the one has a few more abrasions, a deeper scratch and one area on the outside at about 4 o'clock where it is scuffed leaving an area at the surface that is matte finish. This is only a small part of the stone and does not affect the table of the stone so again the center and stone overall has a nice polish and sheen and is not abraided overall with a matte finish, but the table facets have those nicks and there is another single nick on the table of that stone as well. This will be evident in the 20x zoomed photos much more than what is visible while wearing.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
